About Me
When you’re looking for a freelance writer, there are a few common things you are likely looking for. You most likely want someone with a technical knowledge of your field. You may want someone who can effectively communicate complicated technical terms in a plain, simple manner. You want someone with passion for what they do.
My name is Jeff Melchior. I am a freelance writer specializing in agricultural writing. Journalism has always been my first love. Although I grew up on a farm and spent most of my youth in farming communities, I never originally intended to pursue a specific career as an ag journalist; that started in 2001 when I became the editor of Alberta’s Farm Gateway and Prairie Hog Country.
That only lasted a year, but in one way or another I kept on coming back to jobs that specialized in ag writing, whether it be news releases, special reports, annual reports and websites as an editor for Meristem Information Resources or writing news stories as a freelancer for Country Guide and Farm Forum.
Still, what does it mean when I say I’m an “ag writer”? After all, the term “agriculture” is hundreds of miles wide and thousands of metres deep. That’s why I’ve specifically selected the work samples on this site to give you an idea of the diversity of my ag writing background. I hope you will look over these samples and if you like what you see we can talk about what I can do to help meet your ag writing needs. Look forward to hearing from you.
